A product manager and a project manager.
What are the differences?
A new week😌A new day to talk about product management.
I’ve noticed that people usually confuse project management for product management.
They are not the same. Albeit, there may be some overlap in their duties, a project manager and a product manager are two separate roles in a corporation.
📌A project manager is in charge of organizing, carrying out, and finishing projects. In order to do this, it is necessary to specify the project’s goals and objectives, develop a project plan, establish deadlines, assign tasks to team members, manage resources, keep track of the project’s progress, and make sure that it is finished within the expected timeframe, budget, and scope. Delivering a certain project or group of projects is what project managers are concerned with.
📌A product manager, on the other hand, is in charge of overseeing a product from conception to launch and beyond. They are accountable for determining the needs of the customer, outlining the product’s specifications, developing product roadmaps, coming up with product strategies, working with cross-functional teams (such as engineering, design, and marketing), and making sure the product is timely and meets the needs of the customer. Product managers are concerned with creating and overseeing a portfolio of products.
📌A project is a unique and temporary endeavor with a finite end to deliver a product. A product is the outcome or result of a project.
📌The person in charge of overseeing a project through its processes and final conclusion is a project manager.
📌The person that owns the vision of the product, creates a roadmap for its development, and manages its performance in the marketplace is the Product Manager.
📌The Project manager’s work ends with all tasks in a project are successfully accomplished and done.
📌The Product manager’s work does not end till a product’s decline/fading out.
